Is this a good prebuilt pc for the price?

I would say that's a great pre built for the money. The CPU is great, the GPU is awesome. Everything is good. I would personally buy that if presented with the option to. It can play all AAA intensive games at high I would say.

Hope this helps! :)

Thats actually a good pc for a good price. I was expecting a crap psu and unknown motherboard but neither was true. I would say go for it.

would you rather have that prebuilt or this one i had built on pcpart picker for 1080p 144hz gameplay?

It seems to be a evga 600b looking at the pictures. The pictures do have all the hardware that is actually in the pc on them.

will i be able to overclock on this comp without the psu being a problem?

Good eye :)

Considering it's Evga 500 B indeed, I think you should have no problems from this side.

There's no way a 500B would power a 1070 under peak load. That thing will need to be replaced very quickly. The 500B is a tier 4 HEC unit - not in the same league at all as their much higher end G2 / P2 / T2 / G3 units. That's the thing with pre-builts - if they do not tell you the make and model of the PSU, DO. NOT. BUY. Under any circumstances. If you are even considering a pre-built, always, always inquire about the make and model of the power supply - because that is one of those things where they get you is by including low end junk that can barely power on, let alone power a high end GPU like the 1070. Cyberpower and some of the crap they sell on Amazon are notorious for this practice. I can't emphasize that enough.

so what's a good budget/performance PSU you would recommend for this build? I'm thinking about getting this PC and asking microcenter to swap out the PSU for something else and calculating the difference, so prebuilt shops do that for you?

I would say probably not. But if you do want a good low budget PSU that you can get, this is one of the best for the least amount of money: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096

It's still not a recommended PSU by any means. I wouldn't use it to power anything more than a 1050 or 1050TI. But a 1070 or 1080, I would not trust this thing at all to power beyond basic usage.

I tend to agree with you. But at least if it fails, it "hopefully" won't take out the other components with it. I like the Seasonic G series, Gold efficiency rating. Just bought one for my everyday rig.

That's probably less likely to happen with a EVGA B than say an LC Power unit or some other junk, no name brand. I use Seasonic PSUs all the time. My work PC has a Seasonic X and it's worked great going on 2 years now.

considering the OP is thinking about overclocking the i5 as well it would be a risk not worth taking for the money they are spending. glad someone actually said something! i recommended that he posted in the overclocking section.. hoping experienced overclockers would give him this type of answer about the psu but unfortunately nobody seemed to notice the psu !

MicroCenter's Powerspec PCs seem to be a pretty good value, and probably the only pre-built that I would consider (other than a boutique PC for audio recording or similar). But it is a shame that even Powerspecs don't use a higher quality PSU. I suppose most buyers of pre-builts simply don't know enough to question the PSU.

it isn't very often i have seen good value pre built pcs anywhere . i am from the uk and they are usually package with shoddy motherboards psu and cases and cpus like the i5 6400 or 7400 plus a low end gpu. then they put around £150+ more than they are worth with catchy "ultra fast quad core i5 gaming pc!" and the obligatory multicoloured £2 case fans!

That's usually the most overlooked part on a PC. People generally notice the "500W" minimum requirement and think that "600W Gold" should be the PSU to get, but they never look beyond that. And I always say - get the right PSU and you will never have to worry. Get the wrong one and it will not end well for you.
