Hi all,

I recently brought a Dell Optiplex 990 (largest model), a business computer I intend to put a g card in

i5 - 2500k processor, 3.3 ghz, 8gb of DDR3, 265 Watt power supply

Can fit any full size PCIE G Card

I was thinking about a GTX 1050ti SC or something similar with an HDMI port and 4gb of vram. Is this a good choice? if not please do tell. I only intent to run games like Fallout: NV and not SUPER demanding games, but being able to run the latest AAA games at a playable framerate is a must. This is my first gaming PC. Also should I get a new power supply with higher Wattage?

Willing to spend $150-250 USD, Im from New Zealand, so cheap secondhand deals are a bit harder. Want to buy something new and shiny anyway

Thanks, Jack

Hi, Jack!

Given that your budget is a mid to lower range, I'd go with a single 1050 Ti. That card can run all of your listed games just fine. If you choose to go this route, a psu upgrade is a must. 265w simply won't handle well in a gaming rig, especially if you intend to upgrade your cpu at some point down the road. Let me know if you have any other questions!

These days more than ever, you have a swath of monitors and game resolutions that govern what type of video card you need. What resolution are you playing and do you plan to upgrade the monitor in the near future before your next video card upgrade after this one?

I plan on staying with my 1920 x 1080 monitor and playing at 1080p for a while
