i have 3 computers, (now only 1 left). so (PC 1) 1155 with i5 3470 and (PC 2) i7 3770.
I wanted to swap CPUs, i removed both CPU from the motherboards and while attempting to insert i7 into PC1 motherboard, i damaged socket "pins". ( I didn't notice it straight away). When the computer did not post I tried putting back the i5 CPU into it's original motherboard. It didn't post too.
than i inspected the motherboard and look at the picture...

i destroyed the socket pins... than I tried putting both CPUs on the other motherboard. and none of them working. it won't post.
warranty long gone. anything I can do to fix CPU's? like putting them in microwave or something? lol

Solution

Sorry to hear that.
I'd suggest taking the cpu's to a shop and having them tested. As many pins as there are that were heavily damaged they may have bent and multiple pins could have made cross contact or improper contacts with the lands on the cpu itself possibly shorting the cpu. If so the cpu's are done. It's not surprising neither of them worked. The motherboard is definitely toast.

Sometimes when a pin or two are slightly bent they can be fixed, this is beyond a couple bent pins. No you can't microwave your cpu's or anything for a magic fix. If they survived (IF), it would have to be sorted out with a known good working board with an intact socket etc before declaring the cpu's ruined.

You should probably watch some CPU installation tutorials because it sounds like you are doing something very wrong, CPU's are for the most part pretty durable unless you are really putting them through a lot of physical abuse. Motherboards are more delicate though.

I've changed CPU's before, zillion times. This time I was doing it without actually seeing what i was doing (under the table)... I know i suck, overconfident etc. and I paid for my mistake. totally deserved this.
