hey, just wondering if It's possible for me to upgrade without having to change my PSU.
Current build :
I5 4460
GTX 960
8GB RAM
350W PSU
I want to upgrade the 960 to a 1060 and I dont really want to change the 350W psu, as of right now it works perfectly fine.
Any answers are appreciated.

I would say go for a 400-450W PSU although you may not need it, but its always best to not over stress the PSU to help prevent it from getting damaged or starting on fire. Also what PSU is it that you got? (The 350W will do if its a good one)

Thing is the 960 take 85-90 watts while the GTX 1060 take 120, so it is a difference, plus the 350 if its a cheap one will NOT work at all.

nope, the 960 takes upto 100w. the 1060 is almost the same, lower in some cases

those 120w draws wont be in gaming.

and yes, i am thinking that his 350w psu is a good one cuz he ran his 960 this long.

Just my experiance on this new build. Originally I first went with a Zotac 970 and the included brand new 500W that came with the case. The wattage use, as you can even see on my parts there, was way under this. The PC had powering up and stability issues. I thought it was the card and replaced it with my current PNY 1060 6GB - now I had even more issues with powering it up when the card was installed. With neither card I could do okay with the IGP, but any card was a issue. I tried a reliable 600W, and still had issues when testing.

In the end while my 'rating' 343W, it takes a 700W to make it run, double the rating. I found numerous other people also ran into this, where they have 230W usage, but won't work on a 300W or 450W but toss in a 500W and they are golden.

That is my experiance YMMV..

In that I found that the GTX 1060 takes 120 watts and the GTX 960 takes 100 watts, so I was pretty much right... So the wattage consumption for the 1060 is completely what Nvidia said it would be 120 watts max in gaming.
