GTX 1050 Ti causing boot loops or fail starts, or solid color screens randomly.

Hello,

Here's my rig:
mobo: MSI Z87 MPOWER MAX
Ram: 32GB GSKILL 1866
PSU: Corsair 750CX-M
SSD: SanDisk Ultra 960gb
Current video card: NVIDIA GTX 560 Ti (uses two 6pin rails)

Trying to upgrade my video card to a GTX 1050Ti (uses no rails, mobo power only) and I've gone through two manufacturer cards already (first bought one from MSI, thinking it was bad returned it and got one from EVGA).

When I put the new card in, my computer will boot loop, or fail to load BIOS. If it makes it past BIOS, it'll run decently, but randomly it'll quit to a solid color screen. The computer is still on, but it'll say the driver failed when I check the event log after re-booting.

I did do the DDU removal and re-installation via safe mode etc. I also cleared the CMOS and re-seated the card, tried the DVI, Display port output etc. Also made sure the IGP was turned off in bios.

If I put my old GTX 560 TI back in the system, everything works fine.

Anyone help?

Thank you,
-Joey

New Nvidia cards can require a UEFI bios, which I don't think your motherboard has. I believe that could be the issue. I'd contact EVGA to verify this, via email or something.

edit: After looking around more, it looks like your motherboard could have that bios. Maybe you need to update it?

Hi and thank you for responding!

So my mobo has UEFI bios (it looks pretty lol). The last version I updated to was a 2015 version that MSI put out called 1.A, but I don't know if that version has the correct support for the new pascal cards that came out this year. It doesn't seem like any new BIOS is available for me either.
