Need upgrading advice for CPU/GPU :)

Hi,

I currently have a Z97-G55 SLI motherboard with an intel i3-4160 CPU and an AMD R9 280x GPU. PSU is an EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2. I am considering making an upgrade on my PC but I'm unsure on whether I should upgrade my CPU or my GPU first. I mostly play League of Legends but I also occasionally play World of Warcraft, Overwatch and Counter-Strike GO.

The CPU's I have in mind are the the i7-4790k and i5-4690k (depending on what's necessary for my gaming needs). In terms of GPU, I'm not really sure but I can stretch my budget to around £300.

So my question is: will an upgrade from my r9 280x to a more powerful GPU be bottlenecked by my CPU?
Will I see a better gain from upgrading CPU before GPU?

I can only upgrade one part at this moment. I am not limited in budget but I do wish to make the most cost effective upgrade and obviously spend as little as possible. Hope to get some help and many thanks in advance :D :D :D

Your current graphics card can handle all of these no problem. I would do the CPU, the i7-4790k can be had for around £200 on ebay if you're patient

I do have major frame rate issues with CS:GO and overwatch. With Overwatch, I am getting under 50 fps whether it be low or high settings. On CS:GO, I'm struggling to get more than 60 fps. Does this make a difference to your suggestion?

Thanks for the reply.

My PC has 8gb of ram.

I have monitored my cpu/gpu utilisation. Overwatch seems to utilise my cpu more than it should. My GPU doesn't get maxed out though. Not sure about the utilisation for CS:Go.
