I am looking to replace my old hard drive with a new ssd and have a few questions. Will i be able to entirely copy my current hard drive as is, with windows installation, drivers ect to the new hard drive. Can i do this without having to buy hardware (pc only has regular hard drive connections). Are there any major disadvantages to doing this (apart from copying viruses).

Also, i have been told that Samsung 850 Evo is the way to go for SSD. Is this true or is there a better option. Is it worth looking at newer PCIE drives (not sure if they'll run on my old z77 mobo).

Thanks.

Yes... it would be easy but there are a few things you need to understand. Unless you don't have any software to reinstall it's recommended to just go...

As long as you get an 850 that is a larger capacity than what you need to transfer you should be fine. The 850 Evo is a very good SSD.

As mentioned above though you will need to use a cloning software to successfully move accross the OS and other applications.

Also, you won't have the problems of having the cloning software breakup your new SSD into partitions to fit your old installation/copy of Windows.
