So I'm going to build a pc and I'm wondering which gpu to get: RX 580 or GTX 1060. They will be the Asus Strix since I like the design and performance of it. If any of you has a suggestion around the same price, feel free to tell me.
Another thing, is the strix easy to disassemble and paint and are there any tutorials on it?

Thanks, Kevin.

Last question first: yes, you can take the cowling off and paint it. I'm not sure about the fans themselves but there are a lot of pictures and videos out there of people doing the cowling. For warranty sake, I would not recommend trying to remove the fans and paint them.

As far as the difference between the two GPUs, the 8GB 580 vs.1060 6GB, the 580 beats the 1060 in just about every DX12 and DX11 game. Both are priced similarly. I feel the 8GB 580 is the better buy and will last much longer not only with an extra 2GB VRAM, but because of its wider 256-bit memory bus vs. the 1060's 192-bit bus.

Okay, thank you. I am planning to game in 1440p, is the rx580 enough to get 60+ fps on very high/ultra settings?
Also, no I'm not planning to paint the fans, only the backplate and maybe the plasic parts around the fans.
And is the rx580 future-proof? Or will it be 'bad' for 1440p gaming over about 1-1,5 years?

Well 1440p is very hard on a GPU if you want to game consistently at 60FPS with high eye candy turned on. It's the main reason I bought a second 970 for SLI after upgrading from 1080p (970 SLI is roughly 10% faster than a single 980Ti depending on game SLI scaling). Took a big hit in FPS like Witcher III, Far Cry 3, and Crysis 3 when moving up to 1440p with a single GPU.

In some games like BF1 is averaged over 70FP, but in other games like Witcher 3 and Dues Ex it averages below 50. Here's a good review of a Strix 580 done by Guru3D just two weeks ago with a lot of games. You can click through the game benchmarks in the drop down menu at the bottom:

Regarding how it will be in the future, nobody really knows. It depends on the game developer and how well they code the game. Dues Ex (DX12) and the two and a half year old Witcher III (DX11) are today's Crysis GPU killers. Watchdogs 2 is even worse...your GPU only averages 35FPS at 1440p. It's really hard to say. But I will say this: generally AMD's upper tier GPUs have a longer shelf life, if you will, than Nvidia's. And as an Nvidia only buyer, I do not say that lightly.

Side note: you can turn down AA some when you have higher resolution. Nvidia has a lightweight on FPS MFAA setting through the control panel that doesn't hit as much on FPS as traditional MSAA. So what I'd do instead of running 4xMSAA in game is 2xMSAA in game and then 2xMFAA in the desktop Nvidia control panel before launching the game. It's a good compromise. Not sure if AMD has something like that.

I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you mean with "longer shelf life", sorry! haha
And seeing the benchmarks from the site you sent me, on 1440p it hovers around the 60fps and sometimes drops a bit below, would it be smart to buy a 1440p 60hz monitor and just adjust my settings to high or medium from time to time on gpu intensive games or buy a 1080p 100+hz monitor and play ultra/very high on 70-100+ fps?

And also one more question, will the rx580 bottleneck my i5 7600k?

nah

remember that some games are more cpu instensive than gpu, like for example gta v who uses more the cpu

other games are gpu intensive and some balance the load between nboth

bottleneck only mans that one part will run at 100% and the other will run at less than that, meaning it is not being pushed as the other, so it will perform, but not at 100%

this translates into slower than ideal fps, instead of 100 fps on a game, you get 80

not the end of the world

that i5 is not a weak cpu, so if there would be a bottleneck, it would be small, very small

American slang for longer expiration date like an item on a grocery store shelf, lol.

Well that's up to your eyes. Some prefer higher resolution at 60Hz, others prefer faster Hz at reduced resolution, especially serious shooter gamers. I myself am content with my Dell U2713H 60Hz for racing games. In those, higher resolution is way more important for track draw distance and whatnot than a faster response time. I used a 1080p 144Hz G-sync monitor for a week. I did notice the more fluid movement in shooters, but less so in racers.

Regarding bottleneck, the higher you go in resolution and quality/AA settings, the less important a CPU-dependent game becomes as more load is put on the GPU. This has been the case for years. Nothing wrong with your i5 7600K, heh. I have yet to see my i5 4690K get bottlenecked.
