Hardware Reserved Memory?

I decided to boost my memory from 8gigs to 16gigs a while ago and noticed that when I did, half of the new 16 gigs was being used up as hardware reserved memory. But only sometimes. Usually when I first boot up my computer for the day, it'll stay reserved, but then a restart or two seems to fix the problem until I turn the computer off for the night. It's a bit mind boggling.

I've gone through the various fixes suggested in other threads like making sure maximum memory is unchecked and going into regedit to clear the pagefile. I've also pulled the RAM out and switched up the slots multiple times. None of it seems to work. The only thing I haven't done yet is update the BIOS which I'm a little hesitant to do.

I'm using a p7p55 LX motherboard with three Corsair XMS3 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 1333 MHz (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory 1.5V and one Corsair XMS3 4 GB 1333MHz PC3-10666 240-pin DDR3. Any help in sussing out this issue would be appreciated.

I could see that you're using two different brands of RAM sticks. This usually isn't recommended. Make sure that you have the voltages and RAM timing set so that both brands of RAM are identical, because every brand has their own set of timings and certain voltages. You can adjust these settings through the BIOS.

They're both the same ram as far as I can tell. I bought them off of Amazon, all from the same page.

Basically, at one point in the past I bought the single stick. Then when I upgraded to 16 gigs, I bought the 3 sticks and added them in. Are they actually different brands of ram?

Welp. I now also flashed my bios to the newest version. It didn't help. The first boot of the day always shows up as half the ram being hardware reserved. A restart or two usually fixes the problem but I still have no idea why it's doing what it's doing.

It even only shows 8gb being used in the bios on the first boot of the day. On a second boot it shows the full 16gb.

For a test, I took one of the ram sticks out last night and restarted it. It worked just fine and showed 12gb of ram, but this was already after I had booted it up once during the day.

I left the stick out and tried booting it up this morning. It refused to boot at all until I added the 4th stick back in. When I checked the bios, it only showed 8gb of ram installed. Upon restarting, it showed all 16gb as per usual. Anyone have any possible idea as to why?
