I have had mixed feelings about both these processors and I am not sure which one to buy. I will be using them for mainly gaming. I don't plan on overclocking them. Which processor would be best for gaming and please explain why.

Thanks for your help!

Yeah totally! And the 1600 comes with the cooler so in the long run your saving money. The difference between the 1600x and the 1600 is that the 1600x overclocks itself for you. But if your fine with the stock speeds on there go with the 1600 and save $50 for not having to get a cooler and it being cheaper.

Hey also I thought you said the ryzen 5 1500 at the beginning and I stated it was a 4 core 8 thread.. I lied. the Ryzen 1600 is a 6 core 12 thread cpu which is even better :D

if you don't want to overclock, from those two the ryzen probably is the best option, more cores and threads do help on most cases

i5 could be a bit better on some games but not by much and the ryzen can overclock itself abit so you don't have to do it, the i5 will not be oveclokcable

on both platforms you will be able to replace the cpu with newer and faster cpus, on amd side you will have more years of new cpus than on intel, new cpus for this socket lga 1151 could very well end this year or the next, amd am4 socket will live until year 2021 or 2022

What about the ryzen 5 1500x. I heard that is a good cpu if I don't plan on overclocking and it will be good for the future too.

Well you actually have an interesting match-up here. It's slightly a toss up. But personally I would go with the Ryzen chip. The reason I would is because the Ryzen chip is going to out perform the intel chip in roughly 85% of all games and about 95% in all workloads. Here is the reason behind this; the ryzen chip is a 4 core 8 thread processor; which means games and tasks that use more cores are going to perform better on it verses the intel chip that is just a 4 core 4 thread chip. Here is where intel slightly shines; the intel chip has higher performance on their individual cores; which means if your doing some thing that only runs on 2-4 cores the intel chip will have slightly better performance but not by a lot. With the current gaming engine market; more and more tasks and games are starting to take advantage of those more core counts. The whole point of Directx12 was to help spread the load better between cores. So here is the simple version of this all; the Ryzen chip will be faster then the i5 7500 80% of the time in games.

What about a 1500x is the 30 dollars more for the 1600 worth it?

Okay. Would I need to buy a cpu cooling fan. I plan on getting the MSI b350 gaming pro motherboard.

Yeah you would need to pick up a cpu cooler for the 1600x; it doesn't come with one.

If I don't want to overclock would the 1600 still work well on games?

if you can, make that 2x4 gbs ram into a 2x8 gbs ram so you get 16 gbs, abit more futureproof

the 950, yes, there are better gpus at better prices, a 1050ti would be better

looks good to me, the 950 should work for a bit more and later you can go for a bigger gpu
