PC won't turn on despite receiving power.

Hi,

So the short version is my PC wont turn on. Was functioning fine less than 12 hours ago, and now this. A single motherboard LED lights up so I know it's receiving some power, but when I push the on button nothing happens. I have also tried the trick where you short the power switch connection using a screw driver but that has had no effect either. Not really sure where to go from there, I just don't understand what could have gone wrong, zero issues last night, the system hasnt been moved or even had anything unplugged or plugged in.

System specs:
i7 4770K, Asus Z97 Pro-gamer ATX Mobo, 32GB Kingston hyper x ddr3 RAM (4 sticks at 2133 MHz) GTX 970 GPU, Corsair 650x PSU.

All suggestions greatly appreciated.

It should still spin for a 1-2 seconds and then stop when it needs to. But I really think it's a faulty PSU. Let us know if the borrowed one works, and then we found our resolution.

Connections are secured, not that anything should have come unseated overnight anyway but yes it has been checked. No fans spin up because the system doesn't start. Power is being received but the system itself doesn't turn on, just has the LED on which it does every time it receives power whether it is actually switched on or not.

Now I know that it worked the night before, but you are sure no cable is bent out of shape? That usually means the motherboard is not getting enough power. Can you try to plug it directly into the wall? You didn't change the voltage on the PSU did you? I would try to remove each cable (especially the 24-pin) and reset it. Also make sure the connections on the PSU are correct. Make sure they are not lose.

Sorry I know that you already did this, but always good to double check. Also try to disconnect everything on the motherboard and just plug in one fan..we should see if the motherboard can distribute power. One last thing, is the fan on the PSU running?

Cables have been checked and reseated across the whole system so don't think it's that. No voltage changes on the PSU either. Again fans and such (i have a water cooler on the cpu) wouldnt be on unless the system turned on, remember this is a system turning on from full shut down, not just from sleep, nothing turns on until the system turns on which is what it wont do here. As for plugging it directly into the wall, not sure what you mean here since it's plugged in at the wall all the time.

No DVD reader but will try the strip down idea, if that doesn't work is it safe to assume it a mobo issue?

No power strip and fan cant spin up as the pc wont turn on and turning it on at the plug, whilst causing mobo LED to light up, does not cause any fan to spin up, im sure they would spin up if the PC were to turn on and boot correctly, but given the issue here is that my pc wont boot, no spin.

Again, I think you think I mean a case fan, I mean the actual fan under the power supply. If that's not spinning then it's not going to work. However, you say that you light LED, and this turns on as soon as you flip the switch on the back of the power supply, correct? So it's delivering power, just not all. I hate to say it, it may be a faulty PSU (even though it worked yesterday). I would recommend doing an RMA on it.

But again, the power supply fan DOES not spin (not the case fan), right? That's the thing we need to figure out

Ah i get you now, sorry i think i misread earlier, the fan does not spin no, but it is one of those fancy ones that doesnt spin unless it really needs to, which since my system is pretty low power and i dont do anything too intensive is pretty much never, at least judging by the dust filter under the psu (incredibly dust free), since my pc case has a basement so i dont see the psu ever unless I open up the whole system. Everything i have tried so far hasnt worked, so i will borrow a new psu to test it when i can.

Got a new PSU in and boom, system works. For whatever reason now one of my fans refuses to work but hey ho, I'll take that over no system at all. Thanks for the help.
