I have an old HP machine I'm trying to refurbish. It goes to POST fine, but I noticed that the back fan on the power supply (Antec SP-450) is not spinning. It says it's a "smart power" model so maybe if shuts down the fan until it gets hot. Does anyone know if this is the case, or should the fan always be running? If so maybe I should go ahead and replace it while I've got the thing taken apart.

if it is not this one, if it is a one with only one big fan on the bottom and the fan never spins of is a similar model with similar technology or is not working properly

I think that's the one. There is no fan on the bottom, but there is on the opposite end. So it sounds from the description like the "exhaust" fan on the back only runs some of the time. Thanks for posting the link. I suppose I should have thought of looking for that myself!

sometimes you can reply to someone that google is your friend but some questions do make us doubt like here
psus are weird sometimes, even decent quality ones like that one
remember that is not a ideal gaming psu, it is a decent psu for a basic pc with a smallish gpu, something like a gtx 1050ti over that could be too noisy, work too hot or give you restart surprises
