I got some good advice from C12Friedman earlier about a 5 beep code on a Dell 2-in-1. So I changed the CMOS battery but when I started the computer, it goes to the Dell logo and stays there. The HDD spins up for a few minutes then goes idle and nothing happens. It doesn't beep anymore but since it doesn't load to windows, it's not much more than a paper weight. Any suggestions or ideas? I suppose I could see if I can get it to reset to factory settings but I'd prefer not to do that if at all possible.
Thanks!

To find anything model specific I would need to know the actual model, narrowing it down to a genertion just drops the possibilities from 80 to 15!
Reminds me of this one lady I was helping at a job many years ago ME- "how long have you been having these problems?" HER - "Ohh for at least a few months before I moved here" (as if i know here entire life history)

If you still see the DELL splash logo then you should be able to get to the BIOS, you likely are just not pressing the right key (dell and some other OEMS like to be completely incsonsistant at this for some reason). You need to google your model number and how to enter BIOS.

Changing the CMOS battery resets the BIOS to default settings. So you likely need to go into the BIOS and configure it properly (Date & TIme should be all you need if you hadn't changed anything else). In theory it shouldn't prevent boot, but in practice, it can.

I don't have it in front of me but it was $300-$400 at MicroCenter about 4 years ago. It's either a Core Duo or Pentium. It's cheap, it's slow at the best of times. In short, it's a POS. But it's the only POS I'll have at home this summer. I'd prefer to save a few bucks before I drop it on another computer if possible.
At this time I can't get to the BIOS so I can't tell you much about what the settings are.
