I want to upgrade my motherboard but i have never done it before. I have found the one i want but idk how to install it. I have installed a gpu and memory before but i have never installed a motherboard. Can anyone give me tips or a guide on doing it? Or should i get someone to do it for me?

Solution
Replacing a motherboard is about as difficult as disassembling LEGOs if LEGOs had connectors that were different shapes and required a screwdriver.

Full system specs? I need to know your CPU, RAM (amount as well as type like DDR3, DDR4, etc), power supply make and model, case make and model and graphics card make and model. I want to make sure your motherboard will fit in your case and will be fully compatible with your system.

Now for the important question: What is the reason why you decided to upgrade your motherboard? Are you unhappy with a certain aspect of your current setup?

I am changeing my system currently i have a amd fx 4300 and want to upgrade to a ryzen 5 1500x. My specs to got with the ryzen 5 1500x. My cpu is ryzen 1500x. My motherboard would be MSI b350 gaming pro. GPU: Nividia Geforce GTX 950. Memory: 2x8 gb DDR4 2400. PSU ATNG ATM 600fb

Your system is not ready for the upgrade. Please upgrade to a higher quality power supply. Even the Corsair CX450M would be better than that unstable potato.

lol okay.

AMD FX CPU's are not backward compatible with Ryzen Motherboards. ryzen is a whole new architecture. if you bought a ryzen motherboard then it will not work with your FX CPU and you may damage the CPU or motherboard if you try to install the CPU on that motherboard

Replacing a motherboard often requires the following tools: standard and Phillips screw drivers. Sometimes pliers if a standoff gets stuck. Do not use the pliers on the board.

1) Remove all cables from the motherboard. Also remove the graphics card.
2) Since you should be upgrading your power supply, remove the old power supply.
3) If drives or other devices are in the way of pulling the board out, remove them now.
4) Unscrew the board from the case.
5) Move the board towards the front of the case just a hair to free it from the I/O shield in the back.
6) Pull the board up and out of the case.
7) Remove the old I/O shield.
8) Install the new I/O shield.
9) Install the CPU, CPU cooler and RAM onto the new board.
10) Using the CPU cooler as a sort of handle, carefully lower the new board into the case.
11) Slide the board to the rear of the case. Make sure the connectors are lining up with the holes in the I/O shield. Line up the holes for the standoffs on the case and screw the board down. Do not crush the board with the mounting screws. Screw drivers only, no power drills.
12) Install the new power supply.
13) Wire up the board and install the graphics card.
14) Fire it up and see how it behaves.

I'll be happy to help if you run into any issues along the way.

I dont want to use my fx 4300 cpu.

He's looking to put a 1500X in the MSI B350 Gaming Pro he plans to purchase. It seems he's already thought this out.

So you're basically building a new system, not just changing the motherboard.

Yes i guess i have to. I thought i just needed a new motherboard and cpu

CX450M will power most graphics cards except for high end Nvidia cards and old AMD power hogs.

What graphics card would you like? I don't want to suggest a high wattage PSU if you don't need it, as to not waste your money.

This is a bit advance but once everything is installed you'll definitely want to go to MSI.com and make sure you have the latest BIOS revision. That's incredibly important for system stability and memory compatibility. This early in Ryzen's life cycle make sure to check back every few weeks for new revisions. If you need help with that when you're done feel free to post here again and one of us can walk you through it.

I second this.

Okay. How about 580? It's not a new design compared to the 400 series, but there are improvements that lead to higher performance/price than the 400 series.

For either of these cards, I'd recommend the CX550M. It'll run quieter and you'll be at a good point in the efficiency curve so it'll actually use less power than the CX450M which would be near the edge of its efficiency curve when running that card and CPU at full load.
