Monitor Looks awful, even at Native Resolution

My friend just gave me an old monitor he had, because my current one is 1600*1200 from IBM. The monitor is adverstised at 1366*768@60hz. It uses a cga cable, so I had to buy an adapter for hdmi to vga. I also have my other monitor plugged in at the same time.

When I actually use it, it looks pretty awful. I've tried changing the sharpness, and pixel clock, but it still looks pretty bad. Lastly, I've tried setting it to 1080p, but it still doesn't get much better. Am I better off selling both old monitors to buy a fresh, 1080 monitor, and is there anything I can do to increase the graphical quality of my 1366*768 monitor?

Thanks!

You won't get a good result in running the monitor at a higher resolution than it supports. The image will be scaled and not look so good.

Always best to run the monitor in it's native resolution. If it still doesn't look very good then, sell em both and grab yourself a 1080p monitor.
