To go with AM4 or stay with AM3+

So I've been looking at AMD systems and have finally found the two different AMD CPUs I want to build on, but I'm still unsure because of some reasons.
To start, I am giving my mom my Intel computer so she can do VR and not be stuck with a crummy 6 year old laptop using an old Athlon processor. My computer is an Intel i5-7600k with an MSI gaming m3 mobo. She'll have her own hdd and the works.
I'm looking to switch back to AMD and have decided between the Ryzen 1500x or the fx 8370. The reason for this is because I'm going to be graduating soon and I'll be looking to clearing out some of the games that I've collected from the past few years. Add that AMD's price point for the older systems is really good for gaming at 4ghz, I'm not complaining.
For the Ryzen 1500x, it blows the Intel I5 out of the water, but still allows me the freedom to do fun and cool things. The thing I'm stingy about is the motherboard; should I go with the X370 or the B350? I have done some homework on both, but I want to hear from you guys on this.
The other AMD CPU, the fx-8370, is something old that I can fall back on and have no real problem with buying again. Sure, the heat can be bothersome and the older CPU architecture is outdated, but it's something I fell in love with when I went to the fx-8320e.
So what do you guys think: should I splurge and get something newer from AMD, or should I go back and get to an older system which I know and have more hardware for? (I have 24 gigs of ddr3 ram lying around)

The difference with X370 is mainly that you can use SLI, two exact same graphics cards from Nvidia.
Not really recommended in todays world. Crossfire (AMD) work on the B350 but you are limited to PCI-E x 4 on the 2nd slot IIRC which would mean a bottleneck. And since both gfx cards are as fast as the slowest...poor performance and stuttering, jiddering.
My recommendation is stick with 1 GPU and B350, you ain't missing out.

B350 is fine. Overclocks just as well, same memory support, has NVME-support, all the USB connectors you want etc. Just make sure you get a motherboard with enough SATA connections. My MSI B350 Tomahawk only has 4 SATAs which is a bit limiting for me, could use 1-2 more. Most other mobos have 6 Satas but I just...
Your i5 is better for gaming.

Dont bother with AM3+, you are talking about 5 year old cpu architecture designed to compete with 2nd/3rd gen i5s.
At this point a $60 Pentium G4560 will outperform the 8370 in any task that wont use all 8 threads.

For other cpu intensive tasks then gaming the 1500x is better then the i5.

@elbert, I don't know which b350 I should choose since I know next to nothing about the b and x motherboards. Do they overclock? Are they meant for businesses like Intel mobo's? If you have a suggestion, post a link from Newegg or Amazon, please.

If you do anything besides gaming, I would recommend R5 1600. Otherwise, Intel should do, Skylake/kaby lake i5. At least at this point. Why do I say that? Games benefit from AMD optimizations. Just look at the Dota patch or the Ashes of Singularity patch for AMDs Ryzen CPUs. 10-20% improvements. Which is CRAZY!
If I could, I would wait 6 months to see what kind of optimizations can be made for other game engines and to the platform. It's still early days. Memory support isn't 100% yet on Ryzen. And Ryzen benefits a lot more from higher RAM speeds than Intel does.
