I have just bought an ASRock z270 gaming k6 mobo, i5 7600k, corsair ddr4 cmk16gx4m2a2666c16r (I know a bit below optimum), 750w cpu etc. Mobo would not boot so I gave it all to local pc builder. They got DIMM slots 3 snd 4 to work but neither 1 nor 2, so could not pair DIMMs. Shop tried their own DIMMs and another processor - same issue. BIOS reset every time. Got a replacement mobo. Same problem. Does anyone have any suggestions - please!

Thanks,

Mike

Solution
I have seen it before once. But I'd never guess it first but I'd say a known good CPU having the exact same issue on 2 diff boards is pretty unlikely. The only constant seems to be your CPU. So that is where I start

Ok, solution found… a bit of a round about journey. Step by step:
1. Dead mobo seems to have damaged processor or vice versa (slots 1 and 2 not working)
2. Processor effected replacement mobo x 2
3. New proc and new mobo = all working! Well, on the bench anyway.

Components used:
RAM - original purchase only
CPU - x2
Mobo - x4!

Glad to have Amazon return policy.

Ah yes, also on 3rd heatsink as it was tricky to find one that would fit without fouling components.

Thanks to all for suggestions!
