I have a work machine, running Kubuntu 17.04 with XRDP installed. The internet connection is about 50MB of both Download and Upload. I connect to this machine using a Dell Laptop with Windows 10, using the standard remote connection tool. This laptop also has access to a 50MB internet connection of both Download and Upload. Both machines have good hardware, and I connect between them trough my company's OpenVPN server. My problem is: every coworker which runs Windows 10 on their work machines have a splendid and strong remote connection, while mine is abnormally slow. I had to configure xrdp.ini to use max_bpp=8, use_compression=yes and disable security in order to make it barely usable. When I check the upload rate from my work computer while remote connecting, it's barely using any upload at all, sometimes it peaks at 200Kbps while it could go all the way to 5Mbps ( Every worker has a 50MB connection allocated to his/hers machine ), and the machine I use to connect wasn't using it's download capabilities either.
What can I do to improve the performance? Before tweaking the xrdp.ini, it would take about 40s to 60s to minimize a single window. I disabled all animations on Kubuntu, set the wallpaper to plain black and configured the CPU Governor to Performance. On the laptop I disabled everything like audio, printers, etc on the Windows Remote Connection Tool, and tried manually chosing all connection speeds options they provide. I not sure what to do, thanks in advance.
