Hi,

My motherboard is P5Q PRO...

Error: "USB device over current status detected shouting down in 15 seconds"...

I checked similar posts but there isn't enough information as far as I noticed.

I was re-heating solder of my sound ports, hoping to solve my sound on-off unstability due to ports.... But accidently made a scratch.

Was so hot, highly probably little melting happened inside the scratch, too... I cleaned it the picture is here:

I thought maybe a hardware way of disabling usb connections would work. I tried to plug off all usb jumper stuff but it didnt work.

I wonder if there is a known way to fixt this?

Just came to mind:

Jumpers disable somewhere between scratch and usb port I guess. Thats why usb "jumpers" didn't work

(note: this mobo has usb pwr jumpers... for different power saving modes i guess.).

Hence I need to follow the opposite direction from usb port on the line, to find a spot to disable the shortcircuit (I guess).... I mean, lines follow a path as "inner mobo - scrach - usb port" i have to disable inner mobo-scratch line..

I just followed the strach related lines they come down to here:

https://scontent.fsaw1-8.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/p526x296/18193979_1885012298446174_3829403382317072348_n.jpg?oh=84165d5504e03a5470dc8def19a65533&oe=59C05800

My theory is if I deattach those small stuff whichever crossed the scratched line, I could obtain the usb lines totally disabled.

Any feedback appreciated... I won't do this untill I am sure what I am doing... :p

How deep is the scratch? Are you sure that nothing is making short circuit in the scratch? I'd not want to pessimist, but you're done mate. Mother boards are multilayered so maybe you scratch something under the first layer. There may be a software version to disable the ports I would think, but the short circuit and damage you cannot undo it

Well its deep enough I can see the lines on the right one not big damaged or short circuit (as far as i see)
but the up-left part deep and looking like merging two or more lines & short circuit!

Look, you can take it to a tech o service so they can look it up, but in my expirience (IT for 8 year, and Electronic Enginnering advanced student) I would adventure to say that the mother is done unless you find a way to physically disable the USB, and I also would say that you probably cant since the mothers are desing to work as a whole

Hmm... hm hmh m..... Also those lines may be serving smth else than usb too.. didnt follow all of them..

I will show it to tehnical services and take their opinion. If they can't fix it (at least cheap) I will give it a try disabling scrach related lines...

& I will report results here as soon as possible..

Since this was my backup board, for a possible backup pc, I won't try what I intended yet.

However, I sent the board to motherboard fixer guy last week. He said he couldn't fix it.

He seemed to clean and stuff, but probably there were some "circuits were burned/melted" other than around the scratch.

Meaningly, Dead the board is signed as DEAD for me.

(at least, until my current pc ends it's life suddenly).
