To SLI or not to SLI...

Hey folks,

I'm sure this perhaps quite a common question but here is my dilemma:

I currently have an MSI GTX 970 and I'm debating on whether I should get another and go for an SLI config or get the 6GB version of the 1060.

I'd love a 1070 but I can't justify the price tag!

My aim is for maximum FPS at 1080p with a 144hz monitor. I play a wide variety of games but BF1 / For Honor / Fallout 4 + DS3 are the most played.

Here is my current build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/pRmCP6

I understand that on paper the 2x970 would probably be more powerful (and slightly cheaper) but I've always just had one card up to this point and understand SLI can potentially have issues.

Anyway, your thoughts would be much appreciated!

Cheers.

Solution
Don't SLI. Sell the 970 and get a 1070. Not only can it occasionally not scale for performance, the power consumption will be over the roof and you may even experience glitches and problems.
Well first off, not all games fully support SLI. As far as getting another 970, how much would it be 300? They have GTX 1070 for $374..and it's probably cheaper for you if you are paying in pounds.

Also, you have to think about your PSU. Can it support it? Lastly, do you have a full tower case that take two GPUs?

Hello,

Thanks for the reply.

I have been looking at good used examples of GTX 970's for about £150 max.

Or I could try and sell my current one for around the same and put that towards a 1060.

I am confident my current build can handle SLI fine.

Holy crap where was the 1070 at that price!

i was in same situation

held out until i could afford the gtx1070

dont regret it

I think I might upgrade to the 1070 just to get the maximum 1080p pleasure.
