Hi all,

So I have been looking into getting a new CPU+Mobo+RAM and would like some opinions.

First of all, here are my current specs:
Mobo: Gigabyte ga-z77x-ud5h
CPU: i5-3570k
RAM: Ballistix 2x8gb DDR3 1333Mhz
PSU: Thermaltake SMART M Series SP-850M 850W
GPU: 2x Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming (SLI)
Case: Thermaltake Chaser MK-1
Monitor: AOC G2460PG 24" 144Hz 1ms G-Sync 1080p

So I am looking into either the i7-6700k or i7-7700k but I'm just not entirely sure which one I should go with. From what I have looking on newegg.ca, the Z270 chipset motherboards seem to have better scores and reviews. But there is also the fact of the 6700k being $385 versus the 7700k that is still $450.

I am not really looking into overclocking very much if any at all. Reason why I want the k version would just be for the base clock gain versus the non-k.

As for RAM, it doesn't seem like faster memory gives much of a performance as far as gaming goes, though it seems The Witcher 3 (most played game at the moment) somewhat benefits from it a little from what I seen in some youtube video benchmarks.

I need 2-way SLI support and at least 3 system fan headers, though that might not be a big deal since there are those system fan splitters I can buy.

Anyway, here are the parts that caught my eye: (Also I live in Canada just for info)
Z270 Mobos:
MSI Gaming Pro Carbon https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16813130973
GIGABYTE GA-Z270XP-SLI https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128972

DDR4 RAM:
Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233859
Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400MHz https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00S51XHUQ/ref=asc_df_B00S51XHUQ4957708/?tag=shopbotca-20&creative=395285&creativeASIN=B00S51XHUQ&linkCode=df0

CPU:
i7-6700k https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117559&cm_re=6700k-_-19-117-559-_-Product
i7-7700k https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117726&cm_re=7700k-_-19-117-726-_-Product

I don't necessarily want to buy exclusively on newegg, I just like their search system, it's quite convenient.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

No, not all.

That's definitely cheaper with that alternative, I just don't really know how reliable AMD cpus are versus Intel, never went with them. Only ever had a couple Radeon GPUs which I haven't had the best experiences with.

Not quite sure what you are saying here...

^ fisherman implied that u r only concerned abt the 2 choices above n dont care for any other alternatives. but its good to see u considering other choices too. Ryzen is the current hot cpu with amazing perf/dollar. the 1600 wont beat a 7700k yet, but when u overclock, its almost near to 7600k and in 2k n above the fps diff is negligible.

Hmm I'll be playing mostly on 1080p hence why I'm going for CPU upgrade first. There's only very few games I can run at 4K with DSR. I did look into some benchmarks comparison with Ryzen vs kaby lake which most of them pit the 1700/1700X vs 6700k/7700k. The good thing is that the cpu usage of Ryzen cpus is pretty impressive but the downside is the fps takes a hit for some reason, I'm assuming it is because most games out there are Intel optimized.

I am a little reluctant to go away from Intel to AMD, just because it's been reliable to me for all these years, does come at a premium though.
But if it is to be more reliable, it's worth it IMO. I'll definitely do an informed research and take my time choosing though

I wonder if AMD will come up with some optimization drivers or something, would be interesting to see.
