The Radeon 9650 is starting to go in my computer and I was looking for recommendations on an upgrade.

Running Windows 10, Intel Core I5 2500k, 8 gb ram, 64 bit, with a 750 or 850 power supply.

Mainly for video games, online and otherwise.

What is a good upgrade for $100 to $200?

I may build a new computer in a year, so didn't want to sink a lot into an older computer.

Also the OP computer is decent enough to live 2-3 more years with a decent mid-ranged GPU (like was mentioned above). This way the OP can save up more $ for a better computer in 2-3 years from now. Obviously these are just my thoughts and OP can do whatever they like :)

Get now:
* RX 470/480/570/580. RX 480/580, RX 580 if it is within $10 of the RX 480 otherwise the 480 will do just fine (4 gb version is within the $200 price range some of the time depending on the deals).

* Save up for a SATA SSD (if you don't already have one) and install it when you get the $ (240-256 gb size for boot drive and a few games, 512 gb for a bit more space).
I would consider the RX 480/580 4 gb versions or even the RX 470/570. If you prefer Nvidia the GTX 1050 Ti. If you could afford a bit more the GTX 1060 6 gb versions are good too. Personally I think the RX480 8 gb versions are just a bit better than the GTX 1060 6 gb versions, but they are both really close to performance. You might be able to get the RX 480 8 gb for a little less than the GTX 1060 6 gb, but it is up to you on which works best for you.

TL : DR
~$200-$250
RX 480 8 gb or GTX 1060 6 gb
~$150-200
RX 480 4 gb or GTX 1050 Ti 4 gb. Also RX 470 4 gb is a good option too.

An RX 580 is the best performing option in your price range.
Great little card for the money.
The 1060 6GB is better if you can crack out another $20-30, but not necessary.
Does offer 10% more performance and better optimization though, so worth considering.

I see $99 deal coming in the next few months on that one. Good for SFF budget gaming PC.

Considering your future plans, an RX 460 2gb should be all you need. It's so much better than what you're used to that it's going to blow your mind...for cheap. I'd wait until you build the next computer before investing anything but the bare minimum in a new videocard. If for some reason you decide not to build a new computer, you can still pair this CPU with a 580 and the 580 should be a lot cheaper then too.
