Every time I try enabling xmp I get a blue screen and my computer says it has to restart. I have tried this multiple times and it always causes a blue screen. If I leave it off or set to auto everything runs just fine. Specs below.

I7 7700K
Asus Maximus IX Code
Corsair Vengeance 32GB 3200Mhz
Seasonic Prime 850W psu
GTX 1080 TI gpu
Samsung 960 Evo M.2 SSD

CMU32GX4M4C3200C16R configuration is 8GBx4.

I just went into the Asus bios and instead of enabling xmp I used the performance meter on the top right of the basic menu. The options are power saving, normal and performance. I switched from normal to performance. Now cpuid is reporting 4600 clock instead of 4500 and ram is running at around 2900 instead of 2133. When I boot the computer the bios screen says 9% overclock. So far everything seems to be stable. I have previously run memtest 86 with no reported errors.

I found a 35 PAGE post on Corsair's forum about this issue except everyone had the Z170 series motherboard. One post did mention the same issue with the Z270 motherboard which is what I have. Many people say that running the memory at 2666 with tighter timings is just as good if not better than 3200. I have currently set my memory manually to 2933 as an experiment. The voltage automatically went up to 1.35. The timings are set at the default for the 3200 profile which is 16-18-18-36. I googled how to set the timings for a lower speed such as 2666 or 2933 and came up with nothing. Any suggestions?

I really don't want to overclock my cpu as I did by switching to the performance setting in bios. I don't want the extra cpu temps. I only want to set the memory as high as I can. If 2666 or 2933 is a good performance increase I just need to know how to set the timings.
