In the beginning - - - well almost! Early games were marketed direct to consumers - and the hackers moved in. Pretty sure there were warez releases that preceded open sales. Origin (EA) and Steam and others rose to keep those hacked games out of the avid gamer world. Having the latest release of a warez game is rather pointless since gaming will be pretty much restricted to solo play.
Buying a game anywhere will probably require that you validate it with the gaming server of authors choice. From there you have many options - the name big box brick and mortars will have a small supply of selected titles. If you have access to a Microcenter store - they seem to be pretty price competitive, though I have not comparison shopped. I generally...
