Hi
Got a zotac GTX 980 Ti amp. started testing it on Crysis 3 and compared it with an already ran test on youtube. while the utube test was showing 90-110 fps , i was experiencing 60-100 in the same mission and on the exact spots. it brings up 2 questions in my mind:
1. Is my GPU working correct?
2. Are other methods involved in this considerable difference?

I use:
i7-6700(non-K) on a z170 pro-gaming MB
Corsair Vengeance 3200 C16 2x8GB
Patriot Ignite 240GB SSD
730w Enermax revolution x't PSU
1080p monitor

test used: www.youtube.com/watch?v=knU6OnyyY0Q
MSI GTX 980 Ti LIGHTNING
I7-5820K
1080p monitor

Iv been told that a better PSU and motherboard would make that considerable difference tho. but im looking for some words of experience & knowledge. so ill be glad to see ur opinions.

Solution
the answer for you is CPU.

Crysis 3 is a game that Loves multiple CPU cores/threads, and the 5820k that the test you are comparing to has 6 physical cores.

This is the factor of your lower minimal frame rates for sure, and most likely is what is contributing to your slightly lower max fps.

with all that said, Enjoy your gaming system! Get yourself Doom 2016 and forget about crysis 3!

Cheers!

Really? Crysis 3 to much for i7 6700k?? You have it wrong, the more cores the less single core performance... 5820k is probably around 3.3ghz instead of the 6700's 4.2ghz...

generally, yes.

not for Crysis 3.

I did not say it is too much, just said that more physical cores will help with the minimal framerates.

Crysis 3 = more cores better.

not true for 90% of the games out there, however, true for Crysis 3.

It is not the only game out there. Id say base upgrades around more than just one game that wasnt all that good to begin with.

It's not too much for your i7 6700K, it just doesn't do as well as the 6 core/12 thread i7 5820K. It's very likely the i7 5820K was OC'ed as well. People typically OC the K series chips, as that is what they are designed to do.

And it's also possible you are using V-sync, which would lower FPS from what it could achieve without.

That is besides the point isn't it? The example was of a 5820k vs 6700, if an old game like crysis is the only game benefiting from more cores then the best i7's i guess i never realized, i used to hit huge frames on crysis 3 on my i5 with a 7970.

If a game improves in performance with more cores, then the i7 5820K can take advantage of that. Typically, these show in the minimums more than the max and average. Crysis is one of those games that likes more cores, even if an i5, or a 4 core i7 can play the game well, that doesn't mean a 6 core CPU can't do better.

hi again

i took your answer to be "crysis 3 is the wrong test subject" . so i started to test other games. i aimed for those released after 2015 , because 6700 and 980ti were released so.and i don't know if its true or not but i didn't find any intels with more than 4 cores after the 5th generation. if its true then crysis 3 was the game meant to be played in its own time.

-first i started with witcher 3. frame rate was almost the same compared to the video on utube (6700k) www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfvIXiYPcMg
- in just cause 3 however the results were even better. while the video with a 6700k had it around 80-110 , i was getting 85-120 ( with a non-k). www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnGT5VIdrWk

so thanks for the correct answer. it was a relief

i have a Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti Waterforce Xtreme on its way tho. it had a significantly low price than a 1070. its 7% better performance than my own 980ti. and i bet it beats 1070 in many cases.

and since im planning to do some famous game series from the beginning , how many multiple core lovers u know?
