Will my 650W psu work with a GTX 1080 ?

Hello, i have a Rasurbo GAP656V2 and i want to know if i can upgrade to a GTX 1080 and run it with no problem. In the past i had a GTX 770 that run with no problem and later an GTX 780 ti that was making my PSU hot and in GTA 5 i experienced some sudden shutdowns i think due to the psu, but that 780 ti has an 250W TDP.
This 1080 only have 1x 8 PIN connector and 180 W TDP. I want to overclock it but if my PSU can't handle OC i am fine with stock.

My system specs are: CPU: I7 4790K No OC
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 1 X 4GB + 1 x 8GB noname
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Green 1 TB + Caviar Black 1 TB
GPU: Inno3D GTX 1060 6 GB
PSU: Rasurbo GaminX and Power 650W V2

Seems you're correct in this... That PSU is terrible.

@Calin_4, please do not try to overclock with this unit. I don't want to see you kill your video card or motherboard.

I was running a 780 TI that was overclocked not an 750 TI. The shutdowns stopped after i removed the OC. Also the PSU offers 2x 8PIN power cables so i don't convert from molex.

I wouldn't run a high-end GPU on that hec-made junk. High ripple, poor voltage regulation, crossload test fails, and it's not *really* a 650W PSU. The best use of this PSU is to run your computer for 5 minutes while you order a competent PSU.

Where did you get any information to support this answer? I'd like to see a link to a PSU review of this model. From what I've seen, it's simply not made well enough to overclock.

If OP would overclock, and his power supply were to take his motherboard or graphics card with it when it dies, he probably wouldn't be having a very happy day.

If the OP keeps on using that PSU, then he probably doesn't care.

Whether he cares now or not, I bet he'll care when his system stops working.

If you don't have the money for a 1080 and a safe PSU, you don't have enough money for a 1080.

Best of luck. Decisions have consequences and it's your GPU at risk, not mine.

Thanks for the concerns, but i will take my chances. I run that 250 TDP with oc that was going over 250W for sure for about 1 year and the PSU still runs very good. So as i said with this 180W tdp card i don't think that i am in risk. Thank you anyway.

That's the thing though, what do you mean by "runs very good". Cannot a PSU run while running poorly?

I said that it runs very good because i have it for about ~3 years and i have only gpu's that surpassed 230 W tdp (GTX 770 Phantom) and the 250W(780ti), so by now i should have either my whole pc or the psu burned if the psu was as bad as you all say it is. I understand very well that it is not high end but by now i have no problem with it and i only go down in tdp from 250 to 230 to 180 now.

I know people who drive drunk that haven't crashed yet. Doesn't make it smart, safe, or responsible.
