Need help to update system

Hi everyone, so I found a dell optiplex sx280 in my garage and I plugged it in. When I open internet explorer, it goes to msn.com so I thought it worked. I can search for things, but I can't open any site other than msn.com I can't even update my version of windows xp because I can't go to any of the sites to update it. I've pinged google and other sites and it works, and there is no packet loss. My ethernet cable is plugged in, I even plugged in the router with the same ethernet cable to my sons laptop and it works. Any help is appreciated.

The internet has moved way past IE6 which is what I'm guessing is on that machine. Go to the following link and see if you can install the Firefox browser. You may then have better access.

You may also need to look into any anti-virus software that is installed and/or any settings in Windows that might restrict your web access.

Try the Firefox browser first though.

Firefox is also going to be a no go as both firefox and chrome have completley stoped supporting windows XP.

Honestely at this point XP is a completley lost caused in the realm of security. An antivirus will provide a strong door, but at this point windows XPs wall are completely torn down so it really does not matter how secure the door is.

You should be able to find and download IE 10 or 11 to it and it work, but just realize that infection is ineveitable.
You can likely also install an old version of chrome or firedox and just dissable auto updates
