Hi,

I recently stumbled across a new free software that suppose to give protection against commjacking when ppl use public Wifi hotspots.

www.coro.net/free-coronet

However I'm pretty much afraid to download and test it (almost as much as I'm afraid from commjacking ;)). Is this software (or company) reliable?

Does anyone know of other software that give this sort of protection from commjacking (or other security threats for that matter)?

Thanks in advance.

The vast majority of things are solved with simple HTTPS sessions. You will get warnings if anyone attempts to tamper with these sessions. Almost all the so called hotspot hacks you see discussed are very old before most sites like facebook went to 100% https. Pretty much anything that money related only uses https now days. A huge number of sites started to move to https when it was discovered the ISP worked with the government to collect data.

After that you can use VPN but finding a free one is not so easy. Most either put extremely low data caps on or do inject advertisements into your machine..almost as bad as malware.

Ok. But some hackers can tamper with/buypass HTTPS security. Am I missing here something?
And even if its safe from commjacking how about other security threats?

Explain how you think hackers can tamper or bypass https. It is designed to prevent even a hostile country from being able hack it. They would just steal all the money from banks that were using HTTPS to protect it not sit around hoping to get into someone facebook account at a hotspot.

Don't believe what you see on tv that they call hacking. Almost all modern "hacks" are tricking stupid people into installing software or giving up their password. They are hacking the people not the software.

Oh come on...
Even if hackers can't penetrate https sites they can still gain access to your phonebook, personal photos, etc by gaining control of radio signals. Scary enough for me...Not to mention gaining control of iot devices.

BTW I've done a little background check on that company (coro.net) - seems like a decent Israeli company to me. To the best of my knowledge - when it comes to cyber security software (and hardware) Israel is Number 1! So I downloaded their application (for Android) - and we'll see what happeans...so don't go away.

Now calm down my friend...Take a glass of water and relax.
I first heard about this company about 2 days ago...I wanted to get a professional opinion about this...so I decided to "advertise" it.
No need to be rude...anyway I've had it with this post.

I don't use anything, I just don't conduct anything financial on public network. I figure I am not that interesting or worth a hacker's time. The only thing I worry are BOTs, and at any sign of trouble, I just restore my last-known-to-be-good OS image. My OS is 2 years old wo any security updates. Is just me.
