Upgrade help needed for smooth 4k video.

4k video plays decent, but a little too choppy for my liking. What will be the best upgrade? ~200 USD budget, but i'd like to keep it as low as possible. No gaming whatsoever.

Currently have:

-MSI H110I Pro
-MSI R7 360 2GD5 OC
-Intel Pentium G4400
-EVGA 500W (100-W1-0500-KR)

get a i3 or a g4560

do a bios update first to use the new cpu

Should be fine with a gpu accelerated video player. Check cpu and gpu usage if you can't change player.

i have a slower gpu than yours

4k needs both gpu and cpu, mine can do 4k, yours is better so it should be enough

the proble is your slow 2 cores

do you have 8 gbs of ram?

yea 8gb of ram. i enabled hardware accelerated decoding in VLC but not he video barely plays. I was using k-lite codec's media player classic.

well my cpu is sitting around 60% in task manager during playback. media player classic is somewhat smooth but its just not flawless. getting little frame drops consistently. its not bad, just not perfect.

vlc has it at 97% with hardware decode

Was that 60% on both cores or was one 90+? Assuming gpu usage was low then I think it's safe to say it's the cpu.

I'll have to check tomorrow with HWiNFO on that one. I just did a clean install of windows. There wasn't much on the machine anyway so I figured why not start fresh to rule out software issues. Thanks for the help so far.

looks like the gpu and cpu both spike to 100% during playback. and that's a fresh install with just drivers/hwinfo/vlc.
