Hi. I've read the "How to Select a Motherboard" guide and I'm only missing the BIOS: where can I read the BIOS needed by the i7-6700K?

Solution

You go to motherboard support page and read info from CPU support list. It will provide you with info about required BIOS version for each supported CPU.

Hey,

The BIOS chip is a module on your motherboard. It is not something that you need to worry about or select. As long as you have a compatible motherboard for your CPU you will be fine.
Do you know what motherboard you are likely to / have bought?

Oh ok, thanks.

No, first of all I was listing the characteristics needed by the motherboard in order to be compatible with the other components (i7-6700K, RX 480 and possibly Samsung 850 EVO).

I haven't yet a clear idea about the prices... The lesser the better but I want at least a decent motherboard for gaming. Maybe 100 euros or less, I'm not sure.

I've looked quickly on Amazon.it and I saw these:
- MSI H110M Pro-VD M.ATX, Socket 1151 - 50 euros
- Gigabyte GA-H110M-S2H - 59 euros
- Asrock B150M PRO4 - 91 euros

I still have to verify the compatibility for all the characteristics, they're just some examples.

i7-6700K - supports overclocking.
Those motherboards in your list - do not support OC. Only Z170 and Z270 boards will support it.

If overclocking is not in your plans, then choose i7-6700. It will have cpu cooler too.
i7-6700K doesn't have a cooler, you will have to buy it separately.

I don't intend to overclock, I chose the 6700K because it costs slightly less and it's 4 GHz instead of 3.4 GHz.

Turbo boost works depending on workload.
In single-threaded workload (1 core active) i7-6700 will boost to 4Ghz,
with 2 cores active - it will boost to 3.8Ghz,
with 3 cores - 3.6Ghz,
with 4 cores - 3.4Ghz.

So it depends on game you play. If game utilizes only one core, then cpu will boost to 4Ghz.
