Hello

I'm an individual who has decided to optimize his life as much as possible, and this has involved scanning as much documentation and loose items in my room to save space. I'm closing in on 10,000 scans and I wanted to secure this data for the long run.

I'm aware of external hard drives that can hold vast amounts of data, but there's always a possbility of it being damaged or malfunctioning later on down the line. The solution I was looking for involved an external drive with around 500GB-1TB of space, but with some online backup capabilities as a failsafe in case the drive no longer functions.

I don't expect any company to offer 1TB of cloud storage for free without a subscription model involved, but around 20GB cloud backup for important documents would be extremely beneficial.
I've looked at something called MyCloud by Western Digital, but I'm skeptical about this product and wanted some expert opinions before purchasing.

I hope to purchase a copy of Winrar or another respectable encryption software, and hopefully upload my file in batches, coupled with password protection for long time peace of mind.

Thank you for your assistance and I look foward to hearing from you.

"...I have about 250GB worth of data and files to store for the long run.." I recommend, in addition to your Cloud storage idea, two 1-3TB usb pancake-sized, platter-driven, external HDs, using Macrium Reflect or anything similar, and make full images of the OS partition and Data partition(s) onto each one. One goes into your house fireproof safe and the other goes to a trusted source such as a bank deposit box or in somebody else's fireproof safe.

Appreciate the encouraging words Roland, but unfortunately nobody else has responded with advice or information lol.

Not 100% sure but I think WD MyCloud is just their NAS offering. But your plan is straight, no problem with it whatsoever. If differential$ is not huge I would let the big guys store my things, like Google or Amazon etc.

Another option is, do you have a safety deposit box, even at family members house, just keep a secondary HD with them, depending how often you need to do this. Old document don't change right.

Aren't Google and Amazon offering monthly subscriptions for their storage services? I'm not too keen on that, and besides I have about 250GB worth of data and files to store for the long run. What would you recommend?

Thanks for the help

That's some extreme stuff you're preaching about Roland. Fireproof safes and Macrium Reflects, but I appreciate the advice. I made the decision to purchase a durable drive from Bufalo, and whilst it may not have cloud backup capabilities, it sure does look tough enough to last for a while.

Thanks for the help!
