i had a stable oc on my asus z170 pro gaming has anyone else had this problem before? i get bsod with my oc that was previously stable on my previous bios version and the bios update says that it improves "system stability" updated to bios version 3401 from 3202

I ran across this with my Asus Sabertooth 990FX board and a Phenom II processor. I just installed the older BIOS until I purchased a newer CPU. This does happen and not everything new is better in this instance. Use what works best for your system.

i got the same problem here , running i5 6600k @4.6 using 1.345V went fine until yesterday. I updated to the same bios version as you and voila , 4.5 4.6 4.7 unstable now also i lost a raid 0 volume(fixed it anyways) but im returning to the 1904 bios . i cant belive how they can fuck it so easy in a simple bios update ....

also i tried to setup manual voltage ,current, vdroop calibration phase mode etc ,nothing works ,it just went unstable even pushing 1.4v

Theres an old saying, if it aint broke, dont try and fix it, new is not always better, I only update the bios if something isnt working properly or if its required to support a new CPU that I intend on buying.

There's another one that I like but also holds true for some, "If it ain't broke, fix it till it is". In the case of some BIOS updates this happens to be the case.

When a company puts out a BIOS update and says it is meant to help stability it is referring to stock settings and under certain circumstances, usually pertaining to certain hardware configurations that were unstable under the previous BIOS. So unless you are having instability while at stock settings, after adjusting voltages, LLC and timings then you would try a BIOS update to help.

dam is there anyway to downgrade my bios version?

From just doing a quick look at your motherboard manual you do not have "BIOS flash back" so there is no guaranty you can BUT give this a shot: Down load the BIOS version you want to flash on to a USB flash drive and try updating through the BIOS, I think it is Asus Easy flash 3. IF it tells you "you can not use an older BIOS" then I do not believe you can go backwards on that board. There is something to be said about Asus' Bios Flash Back utility, you can go forward and backwards easily with it never having an issue with the BIOS release date.

If you can get into the bios, I think a lot of people here think you've bricked your motherboard, just download the bios that was working well for you, stick it on a USB stick, boot to the bios, but first load bios defaults, save and exit then reboot back into the bios and use the ezflash utility to flash to an earlier version, you dont want to be flashing with your ram playing up which is why I say load bios defaulst first.

have you tried without running the XMP setting enabled? Have you run Memtest86+ to test the ram for errors?
