XMP fails after bios update

After updating the bios of my Asus Z170 pro gaming, my XMP profile no longer works (computer won't boot when i re-enable XMP) ... on the previous bios, it ran and worked just fine.

I ran previously with stock intel CPU settings - was only using the XMP (setting gskill ram to 3000) and then I used adaptive power setting (instead of auto) to lower the usage to 1.25 (it was set default to 1.35) everything worked fine for a year until today I decided to update my bios and wham, now I can no longer run those settings. I can't even run the XMP with default settings of 1.35 power setting on auto.

hmm :/
(addon) Seems like a bad day for updating (I also updated firmware of my samsung m.2 950pro and after 10 tests its performance had dropped quite a bit, from reaching 2100+ read and max write, to reaching barely 1700-1800 reads and max write - remind me not to update things. -.- )

Solution
Just flash it to the last BIOS version, then when it POSTs in to the new BIOS for the first time shut down, then do a clear CMOS procedure, then fire up in to the BIOS and try your XMP.

I haven't tried that. The computer runs, but only when I don't select any XMP profile.
I can try doing as you suggest to reset the CMOS and see if that helps for me to be able to re-select the XMP profile as before and run it as before the bios-update :)

Try a hard reset. I always do a hard reset after a BIOS flash. I'd boot to the desktop after a hard reset before I tried any XMP profile.

I tried a CMOS reset, still no change.
I still can't run the XMP profile, even with stock settings... and on the previous BIOS, I ran it with exactly those settings, except I made it consume less power by enabling adaptive power and lowering it from 1.35 to 1.25, so it's even more of a mystery that it can't run on this bios even with default higher power settings.

It's just annoying when something worked flawlessly until you update the bios and then it stops working. :kaola:
Running 3000mhz ram at 2133 just is silly hehe

Any particular reason you updated your BIOS in the first place? No real need to do so unless there's a problem. BIOS udpates "should" typically bring more RAM compatibility but that may have backfired on you here. Sounds like the new version is actually worse for your RAM, in which case you should probably roll back your BIOS.

No reason at all, I just figured "staying up to date" (who knows, maybe a few performance increases), but now I definitely regret it.

I heard it's troublesome for exactly the ASUS Z170 gaming pro to downgrade its bios... I hope that's a rumor :/

For the sake of testing, I decided to run the auto-tuning wizard (in the asus motherboard options).

For some reason, it starts up, if the CPU is also overclocked.... not when it's only the ram profile enabled.

I used to run it with stock CPU settings and just the XMP profile enabled for the ram (to run them at their intended 3000mhz).

So this bios-update for some reason, demands that to run the ram at 3000mhz, you also gotta overclock your CPU...
strange no?

You might ask why that's a problem, why I don't just run the cpu overclocked .. well, usually when I buy a new CPU, i like to run it stock for a year or two and later down the road, when games etc become a bit more demanding, then i'll overclock the CPU as needed --- but I see no reason to overclock it out of the box, if it already runs 120+ fps in every game I play, since it's just 10-15 Celsius extra degree's of heat and lifespan shortening.

Anyway, so thats why before I ran just the XMP profile for the ram, with stock cpu settings and lower power consumption via adaptive power @1.25 .. and why I'm annoyed it won't accept that after the bios update (even with power power being left default auto @1.35)
