T-Mobile S8 constantly receiving data while connected to WiFi?

So I picked up the Galaxy S8, and so far so good, I'm just having this issue that I never noticed on my S7. When connected to Wi-Fi, I noticed the little signal arrows, the down one was constantly lit up, even when the phone was asleep with the display off. I checked system monitor, and it showed a constant like 3KB/s and that was it. It's more of an annoyance than anything, as I don't imagine this having a significant impact on battery life, but is there a way to fix this?

Possibly related, I had to turn off battery optimization for Gmail and Messages (the default SMS text app) so that there was no delay with notifications, because an email would come through, but the phone wouldn't notify me until about 20 minutes later. Could that be related to the problem listed above? Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't think that. However, the thing is, other information could be be transmitted. I do know that visual voicemail, picture messages, and other cellular services will use 4G over the WiFi, even if it's connected. I understand that it can be annoying. The only way to stop it is to shut off mobile data. But that will prevent MMS and visual voicemail as well.

Not sure how T-Mobile network works, but it using GSM like AT&T (which I know a lot about).
