Graphics card recognition affected by hard drive corrupted files?

Hi all,

I'm not exactly a computer wiz, I usually try and google most of the problems. However this one I really have no idea. I've had a problem for about 3 days now trying to fix my system's recognition for my video card - Radeon HD 7770. I saw no real issues before this. I booted up my PC and it didn't recognize my card after about 3 years of use. So I used the motherboard image to tinker around attempt to fix it. Things I've tried so far :

- Using a "Driver remover" from AMD website and reinstalling drivers (Tried this while booting with the video card taken out and removing drivers then putting it back in and restarting)
- Made sure card position was secure and assuring all the power is connected (Fan is running)

This is where I thought to maybe check the hard drive, apparently there was 2 corrupted files.

- I ran an error-check, it caught and replaced lpservice.exe and replaced it, the other file name was long and I couldn't catch it in time.
- I tried doing a system restore, but for some reason all of my system restore points are gone. I at least 3 the last time I checked a month ago.
- I ran sfc /scannow in CMD and returned with "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix them"
- I found a post about DISM so I ran 'dism /online / cleanup-image /scanhealth' which completed successfully.
- So then I ran 'Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth' which gave me error 87 "The restorehealth option is not recognized in this context. I'm on windows 7 (Damn, I should have upgraded to 10 when i had the chance).

I'm not sure if these problems are intertwined and it seemed to be a multifaceted issue so I wasn't sure which sub forum to post it on. Any help is greatly appreciated!

First, does the fact you can do all this mean your computer functions fine with integrated graphics, or another videocard, but not with the 7770? If so, maybe your videocard isn't working. The fan running really doesn't prove anything other than the fan is getting power. Test it in another computer. If the card is proven to work, then go to the next step.

If it was me, because of all the things you've done to fix this and who knows what the effect of all that is, I'd start with a clean reinstall of Windows, Win 7 in your situation. Format the hard drive and everything, as if all parts were new. All these little issues, things that got fixed and restore points that mysteriously disappeared, make me doubt this current installation of Windows is trustworthy.

Yes , the integrated graphics work fine, only the 7770 isn't being recognized. Unfortunately, I don't have another rig to test if the card is working or not on. I am tempted to do a clean windows install, however I am living overseas at the moment and don't have my discs. Is it possible for me to do a repair install of windows without discs?
