Hello!

I have a pretty old system, though it still plays the games I want it to fine, but I feel like my RAM is being a bottleneck (82% usage just when browsing/watching streams) when I try to do any kind of multitasking.

Specs:

AMD Phenom II 1090t
Geforce gtx 1050ti
4 GB DDR3 1333mhz (Can't remember the brand)
Asus m4a88td-v evo/usb3

At first I was going to upgrade to 8 gigs (2x4) but I noticed 16gb (2x8) kits are only 35-40% more expensive, but the motherboard is aging and I don't really know if it's going to take 8gb sticks.

Help would be much appreciated!

Solution
According to memory support on asus page this board should support 8gb modules with maximum 16gb installed memory. But to be 100% sure it would work try get one of supported ones.

The AMD 1090t has the memory controller built-in, and handles 8 GB RAM modules perfectly fine. The only issue I would perceive the motherboard presenting is in the stability or ability to run high speed RAM. RAM speed is also influenced by the memory controller in your CPU.

ASUS QVL for M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3

There is one entry for DDR3 1600 from ADATA that is running 2x 8 GB (16 GB), so it's certainly an obtainable configuration.

Well, if it can handle 1 stick of RAM from one maker, it should be able to handle 2. Corsair seems to be the cheapest choice so far. Thank you for your answers!
