PSU power cable adapter for GPU

People can, and do, use those adapters. I wouldn't do it. My reasoning: If I'm buying a $180-$200 card, I'm REALLY going to cheap out on powering it? No. There are other options. If I have enough power, but just a 6 pin connector, I can buy a card that uses the 6 pin connector on my power supply. I can buy a new power supply, one with a 6+2 pin connector and spend less on the videocard. Keep in mind that a good power supply is vital, a power supply isn't just some random component in your compuiter. It's actually an important element. You can use just about any case, any fan, any keyboard...but the power supply is one component where just any one won't do.

One final consideration: if you use the adapter, then install the card, then you have some issue getting the card to work right, how do you know it's not the adapter? How do you troubleshoot your problem when you've halfassed the way you hooked it up to start with?
