Hi All

I have an i7 2600k and ZH77a Pro motherboard with 4x 4gb corsiar DDR3 1600mhz BUT i can only get them running at 1333mhz Ive tried enabling xmp profile but it still stays the same.

Ive also tried on another motherboard I have with an FX 8150 and it still reads at 1333mhz so I no it not the I7 limiting it. Any suggestions on what else I can do?

@nd Question is my FX 8150 idles at 55 degrees and sometimes will shutdown due to the temps and its not the motherboard as it works fine with same cooler and an FX 6300. I have tried reapplying paste and reseating it. So any help with that also would be great thanks in advance.

If the RAM is 1866mhz, and you can, but usually the 1600mhz can't be oced to 1866mhz.

The M5A97 evo motherboard is good for fx8150, and some of corsiar RAM will run at the lowest speed by default. You will have to manually set it to 1600mhz in the BIOS. Also you may just try use 2 x 4GB for AMD PC to see you can up the RAM to 1600mhz.

What cooler do you have? Keep in mind the cooler also has the TDP limitation too. eg ZALMAN CNPS2X 80mm is for up to 120W TDP cpu. http://www.zalman.com/contents/products/view.html?no=590
For the intel PC, if the H77 MB had the newer version BIOS, you can't oc anymore, because intel added the microcode into the BIOS to block the oc. Your i7 2600K can support up to 1333 mhz only. http://ark.intel.com/products/52214/Intel-Core-i7-2600K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz

For the AMD PC, what MB do you have? because the fx8150 has 125W TDP, the fx6300 has 95W TDP. So not all the MB can support the fx8150, including the lower end 970 chipset MB too. I think the MB causes your problem.

Thanks for the reply.
I can still overclock on this board I put it up to 3.8ghz with a different set of ram but reset eveything back to default as I didnt need it running any faster. But i have also read about lots of people using the same cpu and running up to 1866mhz ram without any problems
