I've ASUS X541UV laptop. Few days ago I got the message " Please select proper boot device and press a key." Went to boot menu. Hard disk was not showing up. Called up service centre. They replaced it with new one. 48 hrs later (Today) again same message. Hard drive is not showing up in BIOS.

Yes. I did send the Laptop back. But ironically it had started to work just fine. Like the problem never occurred at all! Still, I explained them the whole situation and they accepted it to test it for two more days at their place to see if the problem still persists. Today I got my laptop and it is working just fine. The service centre also told that they did not find anything wrong! Wow! I don't know what's going on.

Also, initially when the first time such error had occurred, like 2-3 weeks before. It got rectified itself. But then it started to show up frequently and one day it just refused to boot up. So, I think this time also going through the same series of events, it's just that I'm in the initial stage.

So what kind of (weird) problem is this? Or it's just my bad luck?

Thanks.

A hard drive should not just disappear from the BIOS and then reappear by itself. As suggested above, I would suspect the connection on the motherboard is faulty, sometimes it securely connects to the HDD, other times not. My guess is that this issue will re-appear again (sorry).

Then how should I convince them, especially when everything is going alright?

I would continue to use it, and if it happens again, take some pictures of the message that pops up, then go into the BIOS and take a picture of the screen where the HDD should show up, and send the pictures to the service center.
