Hello, I'm looking to upgrade my Sony VAIO VPCEH-3LFX's 750gb 5400rpm SATA II HDD to the cheapest but still reliable 480gb+ SSD

According to this website, they recommend $200 512gb SSD, which seems a bit expensive. Would there be any harm in buying this instead?

I would be saving $70 on a unit with very solid ratings.

Also, would swapping the SSD be a matter of prying off the bottom of my laptop, unscrewing and unplugging the HDD and putting it back together with an SSD?

Thanks

The PNY drive is fine. For setup, yes your laptop should fit the SSD with no issues, it likely had a drive caddy you will need to remove and add your drive to.

If your Windows setup is running well, you can clone your existing drive to the new one, and it will be like your old system but with a faster drive. I use Macrium Reflect, works well and there is a free version. Get a USB enclosure, put the new SSD into that, boot off the Reflect boot media, clone your drive to the new one. Just be very careful about what disk you clone to what, if you clone your new one to the old one, you will wipe out your drive.
