So I bought a PlayStation from goodwill, plugged it up, it booted, but refused to read discs. I did my research, and found that I had to reset the level at which the laser sat, I did so, and games like grand theft auto San Andreas worked, but CD discs like Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex ( blue colored discs) would not read, I did a tape trick on it and it worked for like 3 minutes and crashed. I am unsure what to do with it, I would really like to go back and play the games of my childhood, how can I make it read discs?

This is normal. I don't think I have one PS2 out of 5 that reads CDs anymore. Most stopped within the first year. The only major problem the PS2 had was a very short CD laser life. The only thing you can do is either get a new disk drive which is impossible to find in 2017 or get another PS2 or PS3 (60GB model).

The thing is most playstations have this issue after a couple of years, I have not been able to find a long term solution for it, I would use an emulator but the thing is I lack a disc drive for my pc, and I have probably 50 games on disc sitting in my closet that I want to replay.
