I have the EVGA GTX 1070 SC edition that has a boost clock of 1784 MHz. Very often I see the clock hit 2000 MHz and I have not done any overclocking of the card. Did I get a good chip?

Lots of great reading there. So if thermal conditions are suitable will the card keep boosting higher and higher or is there still some sort of ceiling? I couldn't quite make that out from the page you linked to but is it late and I'll need to read it again.

Yeah it will hit a ceiling in terms of thermals, power limits and voltage. The card has inbuilt limits as to how much wattage it can draw (which can also be increased).

I think what I mean is, even though it boosts past the advertised boost clock, is there another boost clock speed limit the manufacturer would have set if thermal conditions allow without the user doing manual overclocking? I'm guessing it might be around that 2000 Mhz...
