firmware upgrade asus rt-ac5300

i currently have a asus rt-ac5300 tri band router ( the one with 8 antennas on it ) and i see they came out with a newer model of it the gt-ac5300 and i was wondering if i can put the firmware from the newer one onto mine to get some of the graphical benefits that it has to offer

Unless that router is really different asus runs a unified software image that looks the same on all their routers. Even fairly old routers got all the new software features. You may also consider asuswrt or asuswrt-merlin. The merlin image is not officially supported but runs on many of the routers.
