Raising voltage will raise the highest speeds you can reach while overclocking. MSI afterburner will not let you cook a card, so going near the max voltage on that slider is not a problem as long as the temps stay reasonable. But, after a certain point, you get less and less MHz per voltage increase.

So only give extra voltage if you are trying to overclock, and running out of stability.

And remember, you are voiding warranties and possibly risking your card when you overclock and raise voltage.
