Laptop CD drive power to normal SATA power adapter? (Explained in question)

So I have an extra 2.5" HDD I want to put in my laptop to play with Linux, an Acer V3-572PG, inside the optical drive bay. It didn't come with an actual optical drive, just an empty tray to take up the space. I noticed inside of it, though, that it has a slim power adapter used for optical drives. Is there any way I can make this work with a normal SATA power interface?

If it doesn't work, it's not a big loss as VMs are available, however if I can have a physical system that would be much preferred as I can use it anywhere instead of having to open up the console for my VM server. Any input appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

Most CD drives in laptops are SATA and use the same power connectors.
Are you sure you can't just plug that drive into the available slot?
For it to fit you might need a drive bracket or holder of some kind but I wouldn't be surprised if the drive connected to the SATA cable and power connector that your laptop is not using for a CD ROM. (no adapter needed)

If you do need an adapter you might find it very hard to find one since it would then be proprietary.
