How to automatically turn off the HDD while not gaming?

Because my laptop's HDD is energy efficient,and turns off randomly if no data is accessed from it, its 1 TB 5400 '' WD BLUE.
And that causes stuttering while I am gaming!
So after disabling the ''Turn hard disk after..'' option and setting it to never I noticed that the stuttering issues have gone!
But with disabling of that option,my HDD seems to be overheating!
So I would like to know if there is a way I can make that option to be automatically enabled while I am not gaming,and turned off while I am gaming!
By the way my laptop has and a.128 GB SSD where I have installed the OS,and the games on the HDD.

You cant dissable it by application.
You may be able to create a batch script that changes that setting and then launches your game.
Now with that said, there is no point to this as your computer will only put the drive to sleep when it idles for the period of time you select, so if you are gaming and loading maps faster then the idle set time then it wont be an issue.
Even if it does go to sleep the wait time is not in the drive re-initializing, it is in seeking to where the next bits of data it needs to retrieve is which it will have to do regardless of any sleep settings.

In addition...it is not just the laptop sleep setting, but the drive itself.
When it thinks you're not using it...it spins down. Whatever the laptop settings are.
This is alongside the laptop setting of "Turn off after..."
