Xbox One or Uprgrade PC

Hello everyone,
I'm currently torn between buying an Xbox One or upgrading my current gaming PC. Here's the specs:
Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H Motherboard:
http://www.gigabyte.us/Motherboard/GA-MA785GM-US2H-rev-33#ov

AMD Phenom II x6 1055t Processor (125w)

8 GB DDR2 Memory, 1tb hard drive
Gigabyte Radeon R7 250X OC 2GB video card

This case (Yes, I know it's ugly)

Windows 10 64 bit with a 650 watt power supply that lights up blue =)

The new games I want to play are Mass Effect Andromeda, Resident Evil 7, my PC runs Fallout 4 and older titles just fine. What's the best bang for my buck per say? On a $300 budget. And no, I don't not care about exclusives, I would just rather play with a controller vs keyboard and mouse sometimes. Thanks!

Solution
I'd personally just chuck in a new GPU, something like an RX 570 and done. Your CPU isn't enough to be a major bottleneck but i would save up for an upgrade at some point when you can (Keep an eye on Ryzen 3 for a nice budget option perhaps). An RX 570 will offer Medium/High settings in most games at 1080p 60 FPS which would look better/smoother than the Xbox one. Hope this helps :)

Why? It still runs my games just fine, but might struggle on newer titles though.

If you are okay with how fallout 4 runs on that pc, then you dont expect much no offense. So in that case I think you would be quite happy with just a gpu upgrade. Your cpu will bottleneck a more powerful gpu in cpu intensive titles like andromeda and fallout 4 but if you are happy with 30-50fps and dont need a constant 60fps lock then your current system with a more powerful gpu say an rx 470 or gtx 1050 ti would likely suit you just fine.

However you are below min spec for andromeda and fallout 4 for that matter. So whether that pc with a new gpu will run games better than an xbox one can i do not know, it will depend on the game. Newer games like andromeda will likely run better on the xbox than that pc.

I play pretty much all my pc games with an xbox one controller, fallout 4, andromenda, and pretty much any game that can conceivably have controller support has it on pc.

That R7 250x is really weak by current standards but the CPU is still OK and is easily able to drive a stronger graphics card.
Have a look here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html?_ga=2.174416354.1746261673.1493751804-1831210187.1493751411
I'll suggest you look at something around the GTX1050Ti level, or as high as the GTX1060 for maximum eye candy. Both will give roughly similar frame rates, with the faster '1060 being held back by the CPU, so only aim that high if you want to load up the card with plenty of eye candy (thus increasing its workload and slowing it down).
Bear in mind the GTX1060 may need a little more power than your current R7, PSU quality and wattage are important here, if in doubt either swap the PSU for a quality 500Watt unit or drop down to the more energy efficient '1050Ti.

Would upgrading the motherboard to something newer and buying 8 gigs of DDR3 memory give me a performance boost? I was thinking about buying the GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 AM3+
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128565, reusing my current processor, case, power supply, and hard drive, along with these two sticks of ram G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231424, plus the 1050ti, https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487296 = Grand Total: $213.96
edit: I should have enough money left over to get a this case:

You'll be wasting your money, by staying with the current CPU/GPU switching MB/RAM won't make any difference.
The games you're looking at all like plenty of cores and a fast CPU, while the current PII isn't the fastest available it's still a useful gaming part if for nothing else than its 6 cores, but the R7 250X is a significant restriction, in everything.
Suggestion: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/coozie7/saved/#view=KB3GXL The case isn't to every taste, but the PSU and GPU are solid upgrades, you could add a couple of higher quality quiet fans into the mix as requited and/or swap the case for something that better suits you.

Thanks. I'll try those suggestions...I was also looking at pre-built rigs from New Egg and was wondering if they are worth buying? This one here, https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883230030 has a similar case to yours, but a different video card.

That prebuilt won't be much of an upgrade, at best a sidegrade-newer parts but not much performance boost.

This build is head and shoulders over the prebuilt and your current system, and yes, I know it's even MORE expensive! https://pcpartpicker.com/user/coozie7/saved/#view=ZxzLkL

The above is well over your given <>$300 budget I know AND you'll need to build it yourself, either of those criteria may well put it out of the picture so consider it's inclusion as a suggestion, possibly something to think about for later on.

In the meantime the cheapest option is still to just upgrade the graphics and, possibly the powersupply while keeping the current PII-it's still not THAT bad for gaming-or to move over to a console.
