Would this setup handle these games well?

Hello. I am getting a laptop next week and these are the specs -

i7 7700HQ
8 GB RAM
GTX 1050
7200RPM HDD

Would these games be playable on the above specs -

1) Witcher 3 on medium, nvidia hairworks off and AO off

2) GTA 5 on high settings, MSAA OFF

3) Minecraft with high quality shaders.

Thank You!

It will then be using system RAM after the 2GB has been exhausted which is slower than GDDR5 RAM. That means you should probably add some RAM or buy a new RAM kit(preferred).

Do you have to purchase that laptop or is it a gift? It's not really aimed at a gamer. With such a lopsided CPU/GPU combo it seems closer to a production workstation. Will you be doing a lot of editing, rendering, streaming or do other non-gaming tasks, apart from the normal surfing, music and such? I would hope to find a more balanced laptop geared towards your needs, if it...

What is the resolution of the laptops screen? If its 1080p yes it should run witcher and gta v at your specified settings 60fps or close to it. Not sure how much the high quality shaders affects minecraft's performance but I would imagine you will be able to run it fine.

Then again, if it were for those tasks I mentioned it would have more RAM. It's just an unbalanced laptop.

Yes. I do a lot of rendering. But thats all. The thing is, I dont really mind having a little weaker processor. But in my country, this is the only laptop with GTX 1050 at this range. Most of the other laptops are GTX 960M.. So I must stick with this.

Yes, that would probably be my only conern if it was my laptop. I would hope for a 1050Ti or 1060, but hey that's just me. Does AMD have a laptop version for RX 470/470/580/580?

Actually, the laptop I have right now has integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics. And I have completed GTA 5 SP on it....on 15 FPS.. with shadows tweaked to be completely off...
So, this one's a HUGE upgrade for me.
I am not greedy for graphics. I just want to play games graphics equivalent to PS4 and XBOX ONE.

It has a very powerful processor which will help with rendering but it has a relatively weak GPU. Rendering is more of a GPU intensive task, depending on the program.

But, you have to do what you have to do.

Herc08, by playable, do you mean I will get atleast above 40 fps on 900p?
Btw, sitting through 15 fps was so annoying that the reason I am getting a new laptop is that I smashed my current one's display with my fist as I was so annoyed.

It's more graphically demanding. It uses more physx and as such I think you will have to lower your settings even more. The best part of that laptop is the 7700.

I would also be concerned with the heat. You punched your laptop.... LOL Sorry. Apart from that did you keep it clean with canned air or use it on a laptop cooling stand with integrated fans?

You need to feed the beast as well. I would add a laptop cooling tray as well. Cooler Master and many other companies make them with integrated fans that can be moved exactly where they need to be. Those little side coolers can help too.
