Zotac 1080ti AMP! Edition Running Too Hot?

My 1080ti arrived on Monday so I got to gaming right away. My resolution is 4K (3840x2160) and I tested GTA V and Battlefield 1 both at max settings. The performance was obviously insanely good, but what concerned me was that it was running at 80C with 80% fan speed. Now I had a 1080 Founders Edition before this, and it usually ran at the same temperature and fan speed. I find it hard to believe that this aftermarket card with a pretty good and beefy cooler is struggling to compete with a Founders Edition 1080, which I ran at the same resolution/settings, minus a few turned down. Is there something wrong my card? I posted a thread on reddit and apparently people believe this is normal? How is an aftermarket card performing worse in thermals than an FE card normal? Is Zotacs AMP editions just not a great design? I mean I had a look at the cooler and it looks pretty beefy. One concern I had was maybe the thermal compound was bad from factory, but when I tried opening the card up, I couldn't find a way to do it, since some essential screws were out of reach. Should I return it to Amazon and buy another card brand? I just have a hard time believing that 80C at 80% fan speed is considered "good/normal" for aftermarket cards.

CPU - 4690k @ 4.5 ghz
GPU - Zotac 1080ti AMP Edition
RAM - 16gb (8x2) 2133mhz Ripjaws X
PSU - EVGA 850w Supernova P2
MOBO - Msi z97 PC Mate
OS - Win 10 64-bit

Hello... I have a Zotac gtx460 that I got cheap on EBAY... because the owner said it was running HOT but not broken... I found the heatsink was mounted on top of a capacitor on one side... I had to groove/cut out the heatsink to make if flat again... simple fix but what came out of the factory (china)... was mismatched or not tested before being sent... Mistakes are made in the construction of them and taking a closer look at a product will/can find a defect. B /

I believe the 1080 ti doesn't start throttling until 85C. If you want it to run cooler try using MSI afterburner software to set a more aggressive fan curve. The aftermarket cards have a better cooling solution but the card makers use that to add a factory overclock. In essence that makes them slightly faster that FE cards but not necessarily cooler. Most of the cards you can get are going to run somewhere around 70-80C so I would just stick with what you have. If you are running 4K resolution you are stressing the card to the max so it is going to run hot.

Unless it is really hot in your room or you have case air flow issues it does sound a little off. This review says 66c at 48% http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/zotac_geforce_gtx_1080_ti_amp_extreme_review,9.html.

That's the AMP Extreme, I have the normal AMP version.

I missed that. Are the fans loud at 80% or are they just low rpm fans? Are your boost clocks throttling too?

It's definitely quieter than my previous founders edition card, but it's audible without headphones. My core clock usually settles at 1972mhz.

I have this same card 1080Ti Amp! edition. Not the extreme. It runs 84-85c on heaven benchmark. I can't believe the temps are just like the Founder's edition. I tried 100% fan speed & still the temps are at 83-84C. WTF? I wish I can return this card & get the MSI gaming X instead.
