I was running a memory intensive game, tabbed out and opened up 2 images that were high res. They took a while to load then my computer froze. Held down the power button and was greeted by a BSOD saying Page_Fault_in_nonpaged_area.

After that I tried doing a bunch of steps online to fix it, did chkdsk in safemode cmd, scanned and repaired drive, stuck at 20% so I left it on over night. I came back in the morning to see that "windows couldn't load correctly" I then tried restoring to a previous point, that didn't work and gave me some error with a Java folder.

Then I just tried doing chkdsk again, and the same thing happened.

I'm stumped on what to do and was wondering if anyone may know the answer to fixing my problem.

I run Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo y510p IdeaPad.

try downloading memtest86 on another PC and make a USB so you can boot laptop from it and check ram sticks, one stick at a time. any errors means stick needs to be replaced.

nonpaged area is ram, hence why i suggested memtest. If it happens at start up it might be a driver unless it happens in safe mode?

go into safe mode if you can and make a copy of the memory.dmp file that is in the root of C drive, if you can upload it to a file sharing site and show it here, someone may be able to work out what cause is.
